WORKING TITLE :

The working title for my documentary will be 'Exterior House Plants', this is due to the idea on which my production will be based upon - the way people use the Peak District. The people of Sheffield use the Peaks as an extension to their home life and my documentary will centre around the normality of this. 'House Plants' is intended to connote the green and pleasant nature of the Peak District and the care people show for the area - much like you would care for a House Plant.

SUBJECT:

The narrative/subject of my Documentary will be the Peak District and how the people of Sheffield use it during their everyday lives. The idea is to highlight how we take its beauty for granted therefore I will be using drone shots to show commuters using the country roads early in the morning(surprise view A6187), this will show how we become distracted by menial everyday tasks such as commuting and don't take enough time to stop and engage with what is right on our doorstep. This will be accompanied by voice over/ narration  of someone telling us the way they use the peaks and if this is as we mentioned for menial everyday tasks or to stop and take in it's beauty for example outdoor pursuits (climbing, paragliding, cycling , photography). This section will also include the narrator telling us some history of the Peaks and how it is to be conserved in years to come and potentially how we can involve ourselves in this process.

GENRE:

I have chosen to work within the nature documentary genre with the aim to educate the people of Sheffield and surrounding areas about the sights and activities available right on their doorsteps in the Peak District. This is an attempt to get people to engage with their surroundings rather than taking them for granted as mentioned before - the beauty has been neglected for so long and it is more important now than ever before to engage in the conservation of this area.

CHARACTERS/PEOPLE:

There will be few characters/people in my short film as the intention is not to focus on our lives, but the sights and activities we miss because of them. The majority of my film will be made up of Ariel drone shots and slow pans which show the vast expanse of the peaks. I will be conducting interviews with a variety of people from different walks of life so I can get a good idea of the way we as a community utilise the facilities we have on offer in our region. I also plan on having a narrator to tell the audience about the history of the area and describing the scenery as it appears on screen - this is a convention of productions of a similar nature such as blue planet.

SYNOPSIS:

Brief synopsis: I aim to show the best places to visit within the Peak District and activities which you can do during in your time there. There is to be a sense of social commentary in terms of making people aware that they do not engage enough with their surroundings due to 21st century life. Effectively I want my short film to be an introduction to the countryside/peaks which encourages people to go out and explore what as a city/area we have to offer. This should also encourage visitors and tourists.

REQUIRED CREW:

To create this short documentary I shall only require myself to operate the camera used for filming, the microphone for recording interviews/narration and the drone used to get the Ariel shots which are to make up the majority of the filming. Because of the nature of the production, each shot can be planned with precision and filmed several times to get the best possible outcome. I will also be controlling the editing of this footage in order to create the desired look for my documentary.

THE REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

- DSLR camera
- Tripod
- DJI Phantom 3 professional drone
- Slider

The above equipment will ensure I get the polished appearance I am aiming to achieve which is typical of the genre.
